The city of Glendora is in the foothills of the Sam Gabriel Mountains. The area is known as the Pride of the Foothills.
The city was first actualized when the Santé Fe Railway connected the East to the West.
The owner of the Locomotive company, George Whitcomb, named the city of Glendora for his wife, Leadora, and the location of his home in a glen. Hence, Glendora was named.
Whitcomb continued to develop the area by building railways to and from the tops of the mountains and made the Pacific Electric Railway.
Glendora has since been home to military academies, other railways, and Clokey Studios (The company that produced Gumby). The city has been very proud of that fact and has been known to host the Gumby Fest.
Glendora is truly a gem of the San Gabriel Valley and certainly the pride of the foothills.
