Founded in 2011 by composer and conductor Dr. Alan Chan, The Alan Chan Jazz Orchestra is a prominent big band in Los Angeles. Its members are accomplished musicians who often collaborate with some of the most distinguished ensembles, contributing to major motion pictures, television shows, and Grammy Award-winning albums.
Alan’s musical creations draw inspiration from his experiences as a resident in various corners of the globe. His compositions also serve as a platform for advocating pressing issues, most notably environmental protection.
These pieces have found a home in a wide range of venues, from the stately halls of the Taiwan National Concert Hall to the cutting-edge ambiance of the Stone in NYC and the vibrant jazz scene at Typhoon Restaurant in the Santa Monica Airport. They’ve also graced conferences and festivals of note, including the International Jazz Festival Enschede and PASIC.
Honored as the victor of the 2011 ArtEZ International Jazz Composition Contest in the Netherlands, Alan has garnered accolades and fellowships from esteemed institutions like ASCAP, the Percussive Arts Society, and the Ucross Foundation.
His compositions have been brought to life by renowned ensembles such as the Grammy-nominated Brussels Jazz Orchestra, the Millennium Jazz Orchestra in the Netherlands, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Taipei Percussion, and the La Jolla Symphony. The orchestra has received vital support from institutions like the American Composers Forum, New Music USA, and the devoted community of music enthusiasts like yourself!
